Technology Benefits

Performance:
Numerous commercial deployments have demonstrated TD-CDMA's ability to deliver the capacity, cell edge performance, and low CAPEX and OPEX costs network operators require.

Coverage:
IPWireless' TD-CDMA technology is designed to deliver superior performance in both coverage limited and capacity limited environments.

Scalability:
The IPWireless system is a highly scalable, modular solution that allows operators to easily deploy success-based capital as additional network coverage and/or capacity is required.

Spectral Efficiency:
IPWireless' true N=1 reuse means that operators can deploy a network throughout a city with only one 5 MHz RF channel for a 3.84 Mcps system and one 10 MHz channel for a 7.68 Mcps system. In addition, IPWireless offers an FDD UMTS TD-CDMA solution for paired spectrum.

Customer Experience:
IPWireless modems are simple to install and operate. Each device is "plug and play" and supports easy online self-registration.

Mobility:
The IPWireless system supports full mobility and handover. The subscriber terminal can travel in excess of 200 kmph while maintaining network connectivity.

Commercially Proven:
The reliability and commercial viability of IPWireless' technology has been demonstrated in over a dozen commercial deployments around the world since 2003.

3GPP Standards:
IPWireless equipment is built on and complies with the 3G Project Partnership (3GPP) UMTS TD-CDMA standard.

3GPP is the international standards body that develops, publishes, and maintains standards for third generation wireless. It is made up of the standards bodies in each of the major countries - T1 (US), ETSI (Europe), ARIB (Japan), ETRI (Korea) and CWTS (China).

The 3GPP family of standards consists of three alternative air-interface (physical layer) standards, which all share higher layer protocol stack and core network / back office architecture. These air-interface standards are FDD W-CDMA, High Chip Rate UMTS TD-CDMA, and low chip rate TD-SCDMA.

IPWireless has chosen to implement the UMTS TD-CDMA air-interface standard, for the following reasons:
  • It is the 3GPP air-interface standard specifically designed for high data rate services;
  • The burst structures defined in the standard are designed to support advanced signal processing, which IPWireless implements to achieve exceptionally high performance (joint detection / advanced multi-user-detection);
  • Wide channels (5 and 10 MHz) are supported permitting higher data rates; and
  • "Shared channels" are supported to enable on-demand assignment of resources
