The IPWireless second generation UMTS TD-CDMA System-on-a-Chip, the SoC2, is a complete UMTS TD-CDMA baseband and RF solution that handset and consumer electronics manufacturers can use to quickly create UMTS TD-CDMA-connected devices.

The SoC2 can easily be embedded into a variety of devices including USB/Ethernet modems, PCMCIA cards, Compact Flash modems, personal wireless access points, mobile phones, and PCI Express minicard modems. The chipset is low power and is form-factor independent making it an ideal solution for electronics makers to embed UMTS TD-CDMA capabilities into new and existing consumer products not conventionally associated with mobile broadband connectivity, such as digital cameras and handheld gaming devices.

The SoC2 is a 3GPP compliant solution available in several frequency bands, including all UMTS TD-CDMA frequency bands, and supports 5 MHz and 10 MHz channel bandwidths. It consists of three elements: the baseband ASIC package, which includes the SoC2 ASIC, Power Management ASIC and memory; the RF chipset with Analog Baseband chip and RF transceiver chip; and software including ThreadX RTOS, 3GPP compliant TD-CDMA protocol stack, Windows drivers for USB and PCMCIA and application software.

Network features supported by the SoC2 include: UMTS TD-CDMA operation; Extended cell; PLMN selection; SIM/USIM; Mobile IP; VoIP on shared channels; Multiple radio bearers; Pseudo DCH; Volume driven UL TFCS selection; FACH power control; DL power control; 16QAM; MusePlusTM Advanced Multi-User Detection; HSDPA and HSUPA; and VoIP DCH.
