IPWireless Receives RUS Acceptance for 3GPP Based Broadband Wireless Product Family

US Operators Can Use Funds from $7.2 Billion Broadband Stimulus Package to Deploy IPWireless Mobile Broadband Network Equipment and End User Devices

San Bruno, CA – March 18, 2009 – IPWireless, a pioneer in developing and delivering next generation silicon, software and network infrastructure solutions, announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development has granted technical acceptance to IPWireless’ 3GPP broadband wireless product family including the company’s V5 NodeB base station, Integrated Network Controller, and end user devices. The company’s products are based on 3GPP standards, providing operators with a seamless upgrade path when they are ready to transition to LTE, and are the first option for RUS accepted equipment for UMTS operators. Acceptance was based on the company’s continued compliance with RUS requirements, customer satisfaction and industry standards.

“With President Obama’s approved multi-billion dollar broadband stimulus package in place, rural telecom operators have an enormous opportunity to bring high-speed wireless broadband to their communities,” said Dr. Bill Jones, chief executive officer of IPWireless. “Our suite of RUS accepted and commercially proven mobile broadband products enable these operators to confidently deploy a wireless network and more favorably qualify for valuable RUS funding.”

The Rural Utility Services (RUS) telecommunications program is designed to assist US communication operators in developing, planning and financing the construction of broadband communications by providing financial grants to enable operators to deploy broadband infrastructure services in rural, economically-challenged communities where services currently do not exist.

IPWireless' mobile broadband solutions, which are based on 3GPP Release 7, enhance network performance and improve the economics of providing wireless broadband services. Benefits of the company’s mobile broadband products include: delivering over 30Mbps per sector and 8Mbps average sector performance in a single 10Mhzband; working in a broad range of spectrum bands, both standard and non-standard frequencies are supported for maximum flexibility and greater range; supporting a set of advanced and unique features including n=1 frequency reuse, intercell inteference cancellation and code reuse MIMO for optimal network performance; and providing operators with a seamless path from Release 7 TD-CDMA to Release 8 LTE ensuring investment protection.
