IPMobile Announces Agreement With Oki Electric Industries for the Supply of TD-CDMA Infrastructure
Tokyo, September 21, 2006 - Today, IPMobile announced the finalization of agreements with Oki Electric Industries (OKI) on providing base station
infrastructure for their mobile broadband wireless service.
Oki is a respected leader in IP network integration, and will support IPMobile in building the full TD-CDMA (Note1) network, including the base stations, the IP core
network and the central control facilities. OKI will procure equipment manufactured by UTStarcom (Note2), and will provide IPMobile with network integration,
maintenance and operational services.
In preparation of launching full commercial services in the spring of 2007, IPMobile plans to place further major orders for equipments and services, following this initial order.
IPMobile will work together with OKI and UTStarcom to promote mobile broadband services using TD-CDMA technology.
Note 1: "TD-CDMA": A 3GPP standardized technology suited for wireless broadband data communication such as the Internet. Recently, New York City has adopted the technology as a part of their public safety initiative. Please refer to the release dated September 12 by the City of New York.
Note2: UTStarcom (Nasdaq UTSI) uses TD-CDMA technology provided by US-based IPWireless in their “Moving MediaTM” products. Products have been already deployed globally by companies such as UKBroadband (UK) and Accelerated Wireless AB (Sweden).
