IPWireless Named to the Red Herring 100

Annual List Honors the "Next Titans of Technology"

SAN BRUNO, CA - May 11, 2004 - IPWireless has been named to the Red Herring 100, an annual listing of the most promising private technology companies, the company announced today.

Red Herring publisher Alex Vieux said the Red Herring 100 award has a tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs.

"At the Red Herring, we scour the industry to identify the best and brightest technology companies that are transforming the current markets and creating new ones," said Vieux. "The Red Herring 100 is our annual list of the most promising private companies. Like Google, eBay, Salesforce.com, and other previous Red Herring 100 alumni, these 100 have the potential to become the next titans of technology."

IPWireless provides Mobile Broadband, advanced wireless communications technology that combines the speed of broadband with the freedom of cellular. With speeds fast or faster than fixed-line options like DSL or cable, the IPWireless Mobile Broadband solution gives subscribers an instantaneous broadband connection that is affordable, reliable, and convenient, all without wires. By using a plug-and-play PC Card (PCMCIA) or small desktop modem, subscribers can enjoy secure, real-time access to data wherever they are in the coverage area -- at home, at work, or on the road, even when moving at vehicular speeds.

According to the Red Herring 100 website, this year's selection process was weighted to reflect the reality of survival in today's challenging marketplace: generating revenues, establishing a strong customer base and equally strong industry partnerships.

"With deployments in several countries worldwide, including Australia, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States, IPWireless has demonstrated real global traction," said Chris Gilbert, CEO, IPWireless. "We are pleased that our success and continuing momentum warranted a spot in the prestigious Red Herring 100."

IPWireless technology is based on UMTS TDD, the 3GPP standard that is optimized for high-speed data. A global standard that can be used by operators and manufacturers worldwide, UMTS TDD has emerged as the leading standard for mobile broadband. The commercially proven Mobile Broadband system includes a complete network infrastructure, pocket-sized wireless desktop modems, and PC cards (PCMCIA) for laptops and PDAs. In addition, major equipment makers are developing a variety of network management and end user devices, including mobile voice over IP handsets and Compact Flash cards, with IPWireless-licensed UMTS TDD chipsets embedded.
