MyWireless: For the First Time in Africa, Reliable, Affordable Broadband Connectivity

South Africa
Internet access in Africa used to be regarded as among the most expensive and unreliable in the world. Due to bandwidth restrictions, the reality of Internet connectivity in South Africa had long been characterized by low-speed, unreliable connections at an exorbitant and fluctuating price. Now, technological advances and a new regulatory framework have enabled Sentech to launch the first true broadband wireless service offering, capable of delivering unrestricted, high-speed, mobile, always-on Internet access at an affordable monthly cost. Launched in January 2004, Sentech announced that it intends to build a network that would bring the service to millions people across the country. Using a small USB - or Ethernet - connected desktop modem or convenient PCMCIA card, subscribers can access the Internet reliably and affordably from home, work, and everywhere in between, even while moving.

Coverage:
Areas currently covered and planned for Sentech’s MyWireless Broadband Service include Gauteng; Johannesburg, Midrand, Pretoria, Kwazulu Natal; Durban, and Cape Town.

Spectrum:
40MHz of frequency in the 2500-2686MHz band.

Distribution:
Subscribers can sign up online for MyWireless service or through a number of retail stores and various cellular distributors and internet providers.
